Effective July 1, 2021,
we sell licenses to reproduce student materials
on a per student, per book, per year basis.
We no longer offer per class licenses.
This article from our FAQ provides teachers, tutors, and administrators information about copyright protection, school discounts, and per-student licensing. The article includes a link to the price list. The simplest way to figure out what each license will cost is to open the License Fee workbook, click the green License Fee Chart tab at the bottom of the workbook, and choose the section that fits your situation. Why did you change from per class to per student licensing?
Per class - per book - per year licensing (up to 30 students per class) worked for many traditional school settings. However, it was not equitable. Large schools paid less per student than small schools. For some co-ops, schools, and tutoring situations, the per class license fee was prohibitive. Per student - per book - per year pricing is equitable.
The 2020-2021 COVID pandemic lockdown changed the model for instructional delivery and opened new business opportunities beyond the traditional classroom. Now, online classes are not limited by physical location; private schools add online students to in-class instruction; pods of families gather to create small group instruction. Per class licensing wasn’t flexible enough for these situations.
Why did the price change on The Story of the World Tests and Answer Key?
In the former per class licensing model, the Tests were licensed as an add-on to a per class license for The Story of the World Student Pages license. That was not how it got implemented, however. As a result, the Tests were undervalued in a standalone license. The Tests now can be licensed as a standalone item, but at a price that reflects their value. If you license the Tests at the same time you license the Student Pages you get a price break on the Tests.
Why does my book describe per class licensing if you no longer offer it?
Older copies of our books (printed or PDF) still have the older language. We updated the language in the PDFs to reflect per student licensing, and as we complete new print runs, the newer physical books state the updated information. Well-Trained Mind Press, like all businesses, reserves the right to change its business practices to meet changing business environments.
