Writing With Ease, our elementary writing curriculum, helps students establish the habits and skills of writing through dictation, copy work, and narration. Our elementary grammar curriculum, First Language Lessons works on these skills as well as teaching correct grammar and the rules of writing.
Students who can tell back a story (narration), hold thoughts in their memory (dictation), recognize good writing style (copy work) and use English correctly (grammar) are ready to express creative thinking with greater facility and clarity. Some young students have an urge to write creatively, so we are adding optional creative writing content to our Writing With Ease curriculum to accommodate these youngsters, starting with Writing With Ease, Level 1.
A late-elementary student might be ready to begin using The Creative Writer as an elective complement to (but not a substitute for) continued mastery of expository writing. Expository writing instruction and practice should continue through the middle- and early high-school years.
