- Writing With Skill is for the intermediate/logic student
We initially planned to produce a high-school writing series called Writing With Style. However, other vendors sell good advanced writing curriculum, so we decided to stop with Writing With Skill. We do not plan to add a high school level.
A student who has completed Writing With Skill, levels 1-3 is ready for a rhetoric-level program. Susan Wise Bauer has written updated guidelines for using our writing program based on the first years of customer feedback. These guidelines include recommendations for rhetoric-level writing curriculum (see pages 2-4). The content of this article is embedded in The Well-Trained Mind, 4th Edition.
A student interested in creative writing should check out our Creative Writer series, an optional guide to sharpening skills at fiction and poetry. This doesn’t replace the Complete Writer expository writing series, but is an elective supplement for students interested in creative writing.
For further recommendations and discussion about teaching writing in the high school years, see the section starting on page 578 in The Well-Trained Mind, 4th Edition. You can learn more about Writing With Skill in its Scope and Sequence.
